cupcakes-and-brimstone:

Even the teacher remarked on how the guys in the class weren’t paying attention, but the girl’s faces ‘lit up like the Fourth of July’.

Excuse me? I was talking to a group of about 5-7 girls. We weren’t talking about Valentine’s Day. We were talking about gay marriage and slut-shaming. There were less than a handful of other students ( NOT JUST GIRLS. ) paying attention to the announcement.

If anything, Valentine’s Day is wholly misogynist. Guys give a girl candy and a teddy bear and except sexual favours in return. Valentine’s Day was not invented by feminists. If anything, feminists — in my own view — are against the message of a whole day devoted to glorifying women into creatures that can be so easily won over by chocolates or flowers.

For a SOCIAL JUSTICE class, no one seems to have an issue with the blatant sexual discrimination.

Any other feminists out there with some thoughts about Valentine’s Day?

And yet we forget that Valentine’s Day is actually the replacement to a mating festival initiated by the Romans before Christianity took over. No gifts, no nothing. Just straight-up loving.

Still, good on you for calling this bro out on his bullshit.

Oh good christ
Apparently our ongoing legacy of colonialism and genocide makes great advertising fodder.
Jesus Christ BBC what the fuck is wrong with you? First Blind Banker, now this?
You are aware it’s 2012?

OH I hadn’t thought of that! I had seen some “ughs” and stuf in regard to this but I wasn’t sure why? I get why people have a problem with it now.

Yeahhhh, BBC America, you have kind of a problematic history with regards to “we claim this space, now it’s ours”-ing. The last time you came here and said that, it didn’t turn out great for the people who were already living here..

OH NO, NOT THAT IMPERIALISTIC DOCTOR WHO. NOT THAT BLITHERING BLATHERING BIG-HEADED BLOODY BBC, COLONIZING US ALL WITH THEIR DOWNTON ABBEY? NOW WE’LL ALL HAVE TO START SPELLING “COLONIZING” LIKE “COLONISING!”
…Jesus H. Christ, lads.

carbunculus:

Seeing people argue that this one post and variations of this guys-taking-pictures-in-the-same-pose-as-girls-in-their-cliche-pictures meme are “incredibly mysoginistic for mocking women who are simply taking pictures of themselves and having fun as a group”

How I see this argument:

I guess that the next step is making boys stop joking about how girls always take a friend to the bathroom, which is about as mysoginistical as that meme.

Seriously, the concept is not really that hard to grasp. Jokes =/= discrimination, discrimination = discrimination. Contrary to popular belief, harmless humor doesn’t cause hate and disrespect, closed minds and serious bad influences cause that.

  1. “Misogynistical” isn’t a word. Neither is “misoginistical.”
  2. Jokes can totally be discrimination, which makes your argument invalid.

Social justice fail? Nay. Attempt to call out overbearing social justice fail? Yes.

Good try, carbunculus. Why don’t you follow this blog to see more of what you shouldn’t do when talking about social justice?

omg did someone just say that wearing a sports team jersey is the same as cultural appropriation

but then again they also said “And by assuming that I’m white, or labeling me as white, simply because of lighting and the level of my skin color, is more racist and offensive than a girl wearing a headdress in a photo.”

ah, deliberately obtuse people make my day.

Someone named sjfail reblogged one of my MLP posts and I’m just sitting here laughing at the fact that someone’s taking time out of their day to make a blog like that and try to make others feel terrible.

Bro, as much as I’m aware that My Little Pony is a pretty fucking ableist show what with their portrayal of “Derpy,” I was making the point that cartoons of the past have been much worse. Remember Looney Tunes? Man, if those were on nowadays, social justice activists would find every way they could to nail those shows to the ground.

Don’t want to make you feel terrible. Just want to help in the most brutally honest way possible. Have a winning day.

This week’s cover (on iPad today, newsstands tomorrow) features a Jan 1., 2012 photograph depicting a blood-spattered poster of Jesus. It was taken at the Coptic Christian Saints Church in Alexandria, Egypt after a bomb attack that killed at least 23 people. The attack is believed to have been carried out by the Army of Islam.

ok Ayaan Hirsi Ali I absolutely hate you now

This is not just an SJ fail… it’s a straight-up goose egg of epic proportions. And in a published format, no less.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali has lost her permission to write anything ever again.
